Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the LockIn application and web companion (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

LockIn is a productivity and accountability app that helps users track goals, record study sessions, manage todos, connect with accountability partners, and participate in a community feedback board.

LockIn Rooms are quiet co-working focus sessions curated by the developer. End users cannot create rooms. Rooms do not include text chat, voice chat, or video chat between users — the only in-room interaction is sending emoji reactions that are broadcast to the entire room (not targeted at individuals). Before joining any room, users see the room name, host, goal, and current participants, and must explicitly accept the join.

LockIn also includes private messaging: you can exchange text and media — including time-lapse videos — with accountability partners in one-on-one chats, in group chats, and within shared mutual or group goals. See Section 7 for details on messaging and content moderation.

3. Account Registration

You must create an account to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

4. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of content you create on the Service. By posting content (including feedback posts, comments, and shared videos), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display and distribute that content within the Service.

You are solely responsible for the content you post. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms.

5. Community Guidelines and Zero-Tolerance Policy

LockIn has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. When using community features (feedback board, comments, shared videos, rooms, direct and group messages, and partner interactions), you agree not to post, share, transmit, or engage in content or behavior that:

  • Contains profanity, hate speech, slurs, or obscene language
  • Harasses, threatens, bullies, or intimidates other users
  • Is spam, deceptive, or misleading
  • Contains illegal content or promotes illegal activity
  • Infringes on intellectual property rights of others
  • Contains sexually explicit material, nudity, or content inappropriate for a general audience
  • Depicts or promotes self-harm, violence, or cruelty
  • Impersonates another person or entity
  • Contains malware, phishing links, or other harmful material

We use automated content filtering and user reporting mechanisms to enforce these guidelines. Violations will result in content removal and may result in temporary suspension or permanent account termination.

6. Reporting, Blocking, and 24-Hour Response

You may report any content or user that violates these Terms using the in-app reporting feature, and you may block other users at any time to prevent their content from appearing in your feed.

We review all reports of objectionable content and abusive users within 24 hours of submission. Content found to violate these Terms will be removed, and users who posted violating content or engaged in abusive behavior will be suspended or permanently removed from the Service.

If you encounter objectionable content or abusive behavior that requires urgent attention, please email support@lapsein.com in addition to using the in-app report feature.

7. Messaging and Direct Communication

LockIn includes private messaging features that let you exchange text and media — including time-lapse videos — with other users. This includes one-on-one chats with accountability partners, group chats, and chats within shared mutual or group goals. (LockIn Rooms, by contrast, have no chat — see Section 2.)

Messages are user-generated content and are subject to the Community Guidelines and Zero-Tolerance Policy in Section 5. You can block any user, remove an accountability partner, and delete a conversation at any time from within the app to stop receiving their messages.

Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They are transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on infrastructure that encrypts data at rest, but LockIn and its service providers are technically able to access message content when necessary to operate the Service, moderate content, enforce these Terms, respond to reports, or comply with law. Do not send sensitive information you would not want accessible for these purposes.

8. Accountability Partners

The accountability partner feature allows you to connect with other users and share progress. By connecting with a partner, you consent to sharing your study session videos, goal progress, and activity data with that partner. You can remove a partner at any time to stop sharing.

9. Prohibited Conduct

  • Attempting to access other users' accounts or private data
  • Using the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Interfering with or disrupting the Service or its infrastructure
  • Creating multiple accounts to circumvent blocks or bans
  • Scraping, crawling, or automated access to the Service
  • Reverse engineering or decompiling any part of the Service

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the app's Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your data will be permanently deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that data will be preserved beyond reasonable measures, or that the Service will produce any particular productivity, academic, or other result. We are not responsible for the accuracy or reliability of user-generated content.

LockIn is a productivity and wellness tool, not a medical or healthcare service. Posture analysis, augmented-reality effects, session summaries, and any related feedback are provided for general informational and motivational purposes only. They are not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and are not a substitute for professional judgment. Consult a qualified professional for any health, medical, or safety concern.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total cumulative liability for all claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or fifty US dollars (US$50), whichever is greater.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless LockIn, its owner, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) any content you post, share, or transmit through the Service; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any rights of another person or entity.

14. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration, rather than in court, except that you may assert claims in small claims court if they qualify.

Arbitration shall be conducted on an individual basis. You agree that you may only bring claims against us in your individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class or representative action.

You agree that any dispute must be brought within one (1) year after the cause of action arises, or it is permanently barred.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Mexico, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal proceedings that are not subject to arbitration shall be brought in the courts located in Mexico.

16. Apple App Store

These Terms are between you and LockIn only, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content and has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for it.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no warranty obligation with respect to the Service, and Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the Service — including product-liability claims, claims that the Service fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, claims arising under consumer-protection or similar law, and claims that the Service infringes a third party's intellectual property rights.

You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.

17. Subscriptions, Payments, and Refunds

Some features require a paid subscription, sold as an auto-renewable subscription through your Apple App Store account. Payment is charged to your Apple account upon confirmation of purchase.

Your subscription automatically renews for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store account settings.

All payments are processed by Apple; we do not receive or store your payment card or billing details. Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with App Store policies, and we are generally unable to issue refunds directly. We may change subscription prices or features on a going-forward basis, with notice through the app or the App Store.

18. General Provisions

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

Entire Agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.

No Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Force Majeure. We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, outages or failures of third-party providers, and network, power, or government actions.

19. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes through the app. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
